Recently we had the honor to donate some of our Neverland Nook goodies to an auction for a non profit organization. It’s a fairly new organization in Charlotte, NC called Camp Luck. Camp Luck (Lucky Unlimited Cardiac Kids) hosts a Family Camp weekend in May and a full week of camp for children in August. The camps are setup for children who have heart problems to go and enjoy themselves for free and with medical assistance, to enjoy their time like any other child would at camp. Here are a couple of photos from the night’s event that we donated to:
I was really honored when we had this opportunity to donate, but I was humbled when read the Camp Luck “About Us” page. The whole concept of Camp Luck began with four people’s passion for kids with heart problems, and one of these four inspirational people, Jacob Jackson, knew firsthand how important the concept was for this camp having had gotten the opportunity at a similar camp in California. He, along with the others, organized and ran their first family weekend for Camp Luck a couple of years ago. Several months after that first camp Jacob passed away after one of his last surgeries to help cure his heart defect. I never heard of Camp Luck until recently or the name Jacob Jackson, but after reading his story I am inspired by his life. My guess, Jacob Jackson was a person who put others first and found strength in times of weakness in order to live a fulfilled life. I ask you please, take a look at the Camp Luck website (www.campluck.com) and if you have an extra dollar in your pocket, maybe help them out a bit to help kids who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to have a fun filled week at camp have that opportunity.
