“Appreciate”, that is my word of the year that I had chosen for 2012. I’ve written several times about it, but Memorial Day really reminded me why I chose that word. Memorial Day was a great day! It should be celebrated in our minds and hearts everyday. I decided to attend a Memorial Day event in a small town that I grew up in. I think it is important that we never forget the men, women, and their families who have sacrificed for our country. I have a degree in history and love learning as much as I can about our country, so needless to say when speeches were given, statistics were told, and hearing about empty chairs at Christmas dinners I was in tears the entire time. Like most families, Jarret and I made preparations for our BBQ, but we have created a new tradition. Whether it be in that same small town or whatever one we end up in, we will always attend a Memorial Day event where people gather to remember and if we have children one day I will dress them in the good ole red, white, and blue and have them learn to appreciate remembrance too. Thank you to all those who have served (families included)!
