Tomato Cage Bird Bath

I’ve been wanting a bird bath for our gardens, but wanted it to be funky and natural at the same time… Weird combination huh?  I decided to go simple, inexpensive, and easy!

What you’ll need:  Planter Saucer {we used a clay one}, Spray Paint {we used a new great outdoor spray paint made by Valspar and bought at Lowe’s}, and a Tomato Cage

The planter bottom {saucer} and the tomoto cage can be any size as long as they fit together {I had no idea how many different sizes of tomato cages there were}.  We walked around with a tomato cage and fit different saucers onto it.  Altogether this bird bath cost about $15, that is way better then  most you can buy ready made.

What you’ll need to do:  Spray paint the saucer {or leave it as is for a more natural look}.  I used 2 coats on both sides of the saucer.  Then this is how simple this bird bath is… Simply put the tomato cage in the ground where you would like it to be and then fit the saucer right on top.  If you think it will blow over, as long as you have the tomato cage in deep enough it should hold really well.  Ours has been out there for a couple of weeks and has held up to our Carolina evening storms.  The butterfly bush behind it got uprooted by the wind the other night, but the bird bath stayed up!

This Fall and Spring we are going to plant some clematis vines to grow up it and hide the tomato cage.  It will be perfect!
