I return to my front porch to find a place where the air smells sweeter and the sun feels warmer than at any other bend in life’s long road. – John Sarris
I grew up on a street where everyone knew each other. We were a neighborhood who even went camping together. I like to call it a firefly childhood. We ran around catching fireflies in the summer evenings and our parents were on each others front porches talking and laughing. It was really nice, probably one of the best memories I own about childhood is growing up with good people outside and I really want that for Aria. It sounds cliche, but it is true and that is why when we were picking out the elevation for our house it just had to be the one with a front porch. It’s a modest front porch, but it’s there and we will be sitting out front talking and laughing while she catches fireflies.
Here are some ideas I would love to incorporate on our new front porch:
1} House Number – The numbers of our street address are ironically a date that is very important to us. Since we won’t have our old beautiful front door and we will wait on getting a fancy one for a while, this would be such a cute addition to our black front door.
2} Adirondack Chairs – I like a rocking chair, my husband likes an adirondack chair, in this picture I see both regular and rocking adirondacks!
3} Lavender – Not only does it keep the mosquitos away, but it smells so lovely! I saw some metal buckets at Ikea that would be so cute to fill up with lavender plants and it would be great to be able to dry lavender and have it make the indoors smell just as good!
4} Wood Barrel Table – The upside down bucket is charming and perfect as a little table.
AND here is the reason why I am talking about the outside of the house: The outside is starting to get COLOR!
