Fabric Scrap Key Chains

Who doesn’t have a million key chain rings hanging around… and if you craft, a million fabric scraps?  I decided to make some cute key chains for my mom and I with all of my scraps.

What you’ll need: fabric scraps, medium weight interfacing, felt scraps {for letters}, sewing stuff, scissors, iron, old cereal box, grosgrain ribbon, key chain ring

First I took a roll of packing tape and traced it onto the “ugly” side of the main side of my fabric scraps and then cut out the circles.

With felt scraps I made letters for the key chains and sewed them on.

Then I placed the interfacing on the “ugly” sides of the fabric and ironed them on.  This will give it a little bit of a stiffer hold on the fabric.

Trace another circle on the cereal box and cut it a bit smaller than the circle {cutting on the inside of the pencil marks}.  I placed this as the middle layer to help complete the stiffness of the key chain.

With pins in place, sew together both pieces with the box piece in the middle.  Do not sew together the top side of the circle! {Note: Dexter loves to hang out with me when I am sewing}

Once I was done sewing majority of the circle I cut out the full shape of the circle.  Then I took the key chain ring and put a piece of grosgrain ribbon through it and folded it in half placing it inside the key chain circle.

Sew the circle piece closed with the ribbon in the middle

Ta Da!!!  Cuteness in a key chain!
