I have been on a quest in the past year to make my house a little more “rustic” while keeping it a little modern to fit my husband’s taste as well. I was staring at our trifle dish (which I use to store bananas in) and thought… why not use some of the frost spray paint I used for candles at our wedding and spray it along with adding jute to the base of it.
What you’ll need: glass frosting spray, jute, any glassware you want to play with, hot glue gun, painter’s tape, piece of newspaper, patience (jute takes a while to put on)
I started with a clean trifle bowl.

Next I used a piece of of newspaper taped with painter’s tape to the inside of the bowl. I did this because I didn’t want any of the frost paint to get inside the bowl.

I didn’t want the whole bowl to be frosted, you may want to, but I wanted to just put a stripe in the middle and then frost the bottom of it, so using the painters tape I taped up all the parts I didn’t want painted.

Spray paint away! I used the Valspar frost spray paint. It’s only about $4.00. I LOVE it!

You need to give it a good hour for it to dry before handling. Jarret and I took our dog for a walk while I waited on it to dry (crafting and exercising.. so nice). Once it was dry I took to heating up my glue gun and got to work with adding jute to the base of the dish.

Once you’re done you have an adorable-somewhat rustic trifle dish.

Mine… being used for more fruit storage than yummy triffle, but bananas ARE delicious!

That would look great for fall. I have one just like it and about the only time I use mine is to fill it full of mini pumpkins, raffia and greenery. Great idea.
